About FlockProof

A chicken gear guide written by a keeper, with the sources showing.

I’m Kyle. I have kept backyard chickens on my own small farm for five years, and FlockProof is where I sort out which coop gear holds up. Every page gives my pick first, then the numbers, the sources and the owner complaints behind it.

Why FlockProof exists

Gear advice for chickens is scattered and often biased. Store pages sell the product. Some brand-written roundups rank the brand’s own product first. Forum threads hold the useful complaints, then sink out of sight. FlockProof pulls the published numbers and the owner reports into one page per buying decision, so you can see what holds up before you spend.

The name is the standard. Gear that is FlockProof survives raccoons, a hard freeze and hens, who are harder on equipment than any spec sheet assumes.

What you get on each page

  • A pick, ranked, with who it suits and who should skip it.
  • Numbers from extension services and manufacturer specs, each linked to its source.
  • Prices with the date they were checked.
  • Owner complaints, quoted or paraphrased and linked to the thread. They show you what to check. They are not statistics.
  • My opinion, kept in boxes labeled “Kyle’s take” so you can tell it from the sourced facts.

Health and safety figures come from extension services and veterinary references, not from my say-so, and health pages carry a “Not vet advice” box. The full method is on how FlockProof researches gear.

How the site makes money

FlockProof uses Amazon Associates links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Buying through one of those links may earn the site a commission at no extra cost to you. The product cards identify Amazon affiliate links and direct seller links, and the affiliate disclosure explains how this affects the site.

Commission does not set the order of the picks. A product with no affiliate program can rank first, and a high-commission product can rank last.

The rooster

The cartoon rooster in the faded green trucker cap, red plaid flannel and work gloves is my alter ego. He shows up wherever a page gives my take instead of a sourced number. He is drawn, not photographed, and the scene images at the top of pages are generated illustrations, not photos of my flock. A photo of my own birds says so in its caption.
